They typically last about an hour but can be extended if extra time is needed. When Dr. Hagen arrives, she will give your pet some time to greet and sniff her until they are feeling more comfortable. She will have you sign some paperwork and finish the payment process. When you are ready, Dr. Hagen will give your pet a sedative injection while you feed them lots of yummy treats. The sedative helps your pet feel more relaxed and alleviates any pain they may be experiencing. Over the next 10-20 minutes, they will gradually become increasingly sleepy. Once they are sound asleep, she will give them a final injection that helps them to pass painlessly and peacefully while you are comforting them with lots of head scratches, belly rubs, and love. She has always had a passion for helping animals and knew from a very young age she wanted to become a veterinarian. In 2007, Dr. Hagen attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. She completed her clinical rotations and final year of vet school at Cornell University and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2010. Dr. Hagen has since practiced in several very busy, fast paced local small animal clinics over the last ten years but has found she longed for a slower pace. She has always had many requests for in home euthanasia but was often unable to accommodate many of these requests due to her busy clinic schedule. When she was able to make home visits, she noticed a profound difference. Animals were no longer anxious or frightened when surrounded by their family at home and were much more at peace as compared to being in a hospital setting.
